Combining Like Terms 2

In practice, we can also combine terms such as

2xex+3xex = (2+3)xex = 5xex

3(x+2)2 + 5(x+2)2 = (3+5)(x+2)2 = 8(x+2)2

2sin x+ sin x = 3sin x

3ln xln x = 2ln x

Example 3.

Simplifying:

2*x*e^x +x*e^(-x) +3*x*e^x + (4*x)/(e^x) = 2*x*e^x +x*e^(-x) +3*x*e^x + 4*x*e^(-x) = 5*x*e^x + 5*x*e^(-x)

Exercise 3.

Simplify:

Answer:

Always use lowercase letters and don't use blank spaces in your answer.

When writing functions, place the variable it is in terms of in brackets. For example:
sin(x), cos(y^2), ln(y), exp(2x).
