Signed Numbers

Division

The result of one number divided by another is called the quotient. As  -2 divided by 3 = -2/3  can be written as  -2*(1/3) , the table of signs shown for multiplication also applies to division. That is,

Thus,

  • The quotient of two numbers of the same sign is positive.
  • The quotient of two numbers of opposite signs is negative.
