Decimals

Percentages

The word "percent" is actually the join of the words "per cent", meaning "out of a hundred". For example,

35%=35/100=0.35

This can be read as 35 percent is equal to 35 out of 100 which is equal to 35 one hundredths.

To convert a percent to a decimal you divide by 100. This is equivalent to moving the decimal point two places to the left. To convert a decimal to a percent you do the reverse. Hence

15% = 0.15

100% = 1.00 = 1

0.25% = 0.0025

3.56 = 356%

0.85 = 85%

0.00067 = 0.067%
